Currently Baru only offers frameless, full overlay cabinets, but there's a good chance we'll be able to add face frame cabinets sometime in 2025.
Baru is proud to use full ¾” material for all of our cabinets. Construction methods for assembled cabinets may vary depending on the local manufacturer and may include either full ¾” backs, or ¼” backs with ¾” nailers.Baru’s Assemble-in-Place (flat-packed) cabinets use closet-type fittings for ease of assembly without clamps.
Our high-quality frameless cabinet boxes are constructed with either ¾” melamine-faced panels (white melamine being the least expensive) or ¾” pre-finished birch or maple plywood. Unfinished paint-grade MDF is also available.
We’re glad you asked! Baru’s extensive network of supplier partners allows us to offer virtually any style Doors and Drawer Fronts in practically any material and finish available! It’s a lot of options, so we’ve broken it down into these three broad categories: Thermally-Fused Laminates (TFL) and other Pre-Finished Panels: Flat, pre-finished and often textured panels are cut to size, then banded with matching (or contrasting) edgebanding. The world of pre-finished panels offers a huge range of options from the least expensive plain white, through an extensive selection of colors, patterns and woodgrains, to real wood veneers and impressively textured and realistic stone, antique wood and other patterns, all combined with unmatched durability and ease of cleaning. An added bonus is that these doors and panels are processed in the same facility along with your cabinet parts for maximum efficiency and lowest cost. Laminated surfaces from Wilsonart, Formica, Pionite, and other manufacturers are also available.Rigid Thermofoil (RTF): Another durable, one-piece option that is not limited to flat slab styles, Thermofoil also offers a wide range of colors, patterns and wood grains, including the new high-gloss and ultra-matte finishes, all of which can be combined with any number of door styles including Shaker, Raised Panel, Mitered and even Applied Molding. Another huge advantage of RTF doors is the ability to exactly match a previous order, even years later.Painted or Stained Wood: When it has to be the real thing, we have you covered! Our vendor partners specialize in producing the highest quality doors, drawer fronts, moldings and related parts available, using state-of-the-art finishes in controlled, factory environments. This includes everything from sequence-matched or reclaimed wood veneer panels, to traditional Raised Panel, Shaker, and Applied Molding doors and drawer fronts. The beauty of Baru’s system is that you can combine any of these door styles and finishes with unlimited custom-sizing for truly custom-made cabinets made easy! Please read on for more extensive information about all three categories, and please note we can’t guarantee that every option shown on every link will be currently available.
Sure! Many simple, slab style doors and drawer fronts can be made to order using edgebanded Thermally-Fused Laminates or other pre-finished sheet materials. Baru offers a selection of standard colors and wood grains, but when a job warrants there is a plethora of additional options.Manufactured panel quality and selection has improved substantially recently. For a contemporary look, some of the patterns are quite stunning and there is a wide range of solid colors, patterns and woodgrains, including Prism TFL Panels and Tafisa TFL Panels. For the highest-quality (and cost) in a contemporary slab style, we offer several premium textured and pre-finished wood options, some of which feature registered textures that match a stone pattern or wood grain, such as Syncron Textured Panels, Nature Plus Texture and Shinnoki Prefinished Wood Panels. For a deep dive and to earn 1-hour credit for IDCEC or AIA check out this informative online course offered by Arauco.
RTF (Rigid Thermofoil) cabinet doors are made from a thin layer of decorative material vacuum-bonded to a high-grade core. They offer several benefits over traditional cabinet doors made from wood or MDF in that they won’t shrink or swell, and most designs have no joints that often cause cracks in other finishes. RTF surfaces are non-porous, so they are durable, resist spills and solvents, and are easy to keep clean. Replacement parts or additional cabinets can be ordered even years later with a high confidence of a perfect match. RTF doors are typically much less expensive than solid wood or real wood veneer and often look as good or better. They are also available in finishes not easily found elsewhere, such as super high-gloss and ultra-matte.You can explore available RTF options from two of our vendor partners Northern Contours (see their Styles or Finishes) and Brushy Creek. We have additional local partners who may produce your order depending on your selections and location.
We are proud to partner with Walzcraft, a well-known industry supplier that offers an impressive selection of door styles, moldings and other accessories, including a wide range of edge and panel profiles along with wainscoting, valences and hoods. Please bear with us as we incorporate the many painted, glazed, and stained finish options into our ordering system. In the meantime, we’ll work with you to achieve the perfect combination of selections for your projects. Sample sets and touch-up kits are also available.
Baru’s frameless construction relies on applied finished ends instead of finished cabinet sides. Simply order a panel the size of the cabinet ends and attach with screws from inside the cabinet. We’re working on offering integrated finished ends in the not-too-distant future, especially for commercial cabinets. In the meantime, we do offer ‘Finished Ends’ vs ‘Unfinished Ends’, which can be a bit confusing. Ordering a Baru cabinet with one or more Finished Ends means there will be no exposed fasteners, holes, hang-rail notches, or other noticeable defects on that end of the cabinet. It will still have the same finish as the cabinet interior. In many cases that is sufficient. For cabinets with exposed interiors or ends where white or pre-finished plywood is not desirable, your best bet is to choose a TFL color or pattern that blends with the exterior finish and style, and use that either for just those cabinets, or for the whole job. Another option is to specify unfinished MDF, and have the cabinets painted after delivery, either before or after installation.
The availability of moldings and other matching accessories depends on the material selection. Some pre-finished TFL materials have matching RTF moldings available, and almost all RTF colors and patterns are available in a limited selection of moldings and accessory pieces. What are the options for painted or stained doors? With solid wood painted or stained finishes, the range of moldings and accessories is almost unlimited, as noted above.
Baru offers a range of drawer box choices including dovetailed solid wood with soft-closing, undermount guides; pre-finished plywood with full-extension side-mounted guides; melamine drawer boxes with either undermount or side-mount guides; and ‘system’ style, where the drawer guides and drawer sides are integrated.
To minimize mistakes and confusion during manufacturing, each Project is restricted to one set of material choices for the cabinet cases, doors, and drawer boxes. You can combine into a Sales Order any number of Projects with different material selections. We’ll combine them into one Sales Order for invoicing and to consolidate the delivery to the job site.
Currently cabinet heights and end panels are limited to 96” as many materials are only available in 8’ sheet sizes. That said, some materials are available in longer lengths. Please contact us if you need something that’s not showing as available.
We’ll be continuously adding cabinet and closet configurations to Baru’s catalog. Contact us if you don’t see what you’re looking for, and in most cases we’ll be able to add your items to our catalog.
